Hugo Sheridan Sims, Jr. (
October 14 ,1921 -July 9 ,2004 ) was a U.S. Representative fromSouth Carolina .Born in
Orangeburg, South Carolina , Sims attended the public schools.He graduated from Wofford College,Spartanburg, South Carolina , 1941.He graduated from the law school of theUniversity of South Carolina ,Columbia, South Carolina , 1947.He was in theUnited States Army from 1942 to 1945, commanded Company A, Five Hundred and First Parachute Infantry, One Hundred and First Airborne Division, after serving overseas 1944-1945. Awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and Silver Star.He was editor of the Times and Democrat, daily newspaper,Orangeburg, South Carolina from 1941 to 1942.He was a lawyer in private practice.He served as member of theSouth Carolina House of Representatives from 1947 to 1948.Sims was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-first Congress (
January 3 ,1949 -January 3 ,1951 ).He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1950. Reentered theUnited States Army , 1951.He resumed the practice of law from 1951 until 1965.He served as president of Management and Investment Corporation from 1965 to 1983.He died onJuly 9 ,2004 , inOrangeburg, South Carolina .He was interred in Memorial Park Cemetery,Orangeburg, South Carolina .ource
