Komatsu 930E

The Komatsu 930E is an Ultra Class off-highway hauler built by Komatsu.

It was the first Ultra Class off-highway hauler built introduced May 1995 at a rated payload capacity of 310 tons according to the book "Super-Duty Earthmovers' by Eric Orlemanmn.It was upgraded to 320 tons with the additon of larger tires thru the 930-2 and 930-3 models.In 1996 it was upgraded up to 320 ton via Bridgestone 50-80R57 tires. All of the Komatsu electric drive haulers are made at the former WABCO hauler plant located in Peoria, Illinois.This plant is located at 2300 NE Adams St in Peoria.cite web

It is a hybrid vehicle whose wheels are driven by alternating current electric motors, like the slightly larger Liebherr T 282B. Older technology large trucks, like the Caterpillar 797B have their diesel motors connected to their driving wheels through a traditional mechanical transmission and drive train.Fact|date=June 2008

On May 27, 2008, Komatsu announced a even bigger off-highway hauler called the 960E.Fact|date=June 2008 This new hauler is 3,500/3,346hp powered by a SSDA18V170 diesel engine.Fully loaded the 960E weighs 1,270,000lbs.This can be found at Komatsuamerica.com.Pictures of the 960E were shown at Dhsdiecast.com in June 2005 before just under 3 years of intensive testing.The July/August 2008 issue of Engineering and Mining Journal ran a story on the new 960E on page 110.This 360 ton was also shown at Komatsu exhibit at MInexpo 2008 in Las Vegas,Neveda from September 22-24.

As of 2004 Komatsu had manufactured 300 model 930E trucks.According to the June 2008 Coal Age magazine, more than 650 930Es have been sold.

Komatsu also manufactures the Komatsu 830E, using similar technology, but with a bucket capacity of only 231,000 kilograms.Fact|date=June 2008
