genetics, behavior, treatment and psychology of Alzheimer's disease. The journal publishes research reports, reviews, shortcommunications, hypotheses, book reviews, and letters-to-the-editorand is dedicated to providing an open forum for original research thatwill expedite our fundamental understanding of Alzheimer's disease.

JAD is also a member of the [http://nprc.incf.org Neuroscience Peer Review Consortium] . The Consortium is an alliance of neurosciencejournals that have agreed to accept manuscript reviews from eachother.

JAD currently has the highest impact factor (4.081) of alljournals focused on Alzheimer's disease [Journal Citation Reports,2007 ] .

Editors-in-Chief

George Perry is a neuroscientist and Dean of the College ofSciences and Professor of Biology at the University of Texas at San Antonio and Mark A. Smith is Professor of Pathology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Both Dean Perry andProf. Smith are recognized as one of the top 20 Alzheimer's diseaseresearchers [ [http://www.esi-topics.com/alzheimer/authors/b1a.html Alzheimer's Disease] ] with over 600publications, one of the top 100 most-citedscientists [ [http://www.in-cites.com/nobel/2006-neu-top100.html in-cites - The 100 Most-Cited Scientists in Neuroscience] ] inNeuroscience & Behavior and one of the top 25 scientists in freeradical research [ [http://www.freeradicalscience.com/labs.php Lab Registry] ] .

Alzheimer Award

Each year, the Associate Editors of the journal select the bestarticle from the previous year's volume. The awardee is presented theAlzheimer Medal, a 3" bronze medal with the likeness of Alois Alzheimer.

This yearly award is sponsored by Elan Pharmaceuticals and the winnerof the 2008 Alzheimer Awardreceived a USD7,500 cash prize.
