James Allred Unit is a prison for males located offU.S. Highway 287 andFarm to Market Road 369 in unincorporated Wichita County,Texas ,United States , northwest ofWichita Falls and northeast of Iowa Park.The prison, classified as a "prison," is operated by the Correctional Institutions Division of the

maximum security units in Texas housing approximately 3600 offenders. Its consists of three departments, General population, Administrative segregation and one of the first "Expansion cell blocks" (High Security) to be built housing some level ones Seg overflow and close custody offenders.There has been only one actual escape from the unit by an offender working in the laundry who hid in a laundry cart that was loaded onto a van for return to the State Hospital, but the offender was apprehended within a couple of hours.
On August 13,
2007 ,Edward Brooks , 52, who is serving a life sentence for anaggravated robbery , broke out shortly after 3 p.m., according to the "Wichita Falls Times and Record News". Brooks was authorized to work in the unit without supervision. He pulled a visiting soft-drink vendor from her black Dodge, then sped through the front gate, according to Assistant Warden Tommy Norwood. The getaway car ran out of gasoline inBurkburnett . Officers spotted him and took him in custody within an hour of the breakout.References
