- Peter O. Hansen
Peter Olsen Hansen (
11 June 1818 –9 August 1895 ) was the translator of theBook of Mormon into Danish. [Deseret News Church Almanac, 2005 ed., p. 319]He was born in
Copenhagen ,Denmark . A sailor by trade, he joined theChurch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints inBoston in 1844. After this Hansen moved to Nauvoo. While at Nauvoo Hansen assisted in building theNauvoo Temple and also worked on the translation of theBook of Mormon into Danish. [Jenson, Andrew. "LDS Biographical Encyclopedia", p. 766 Hansen arrived inSalt Lake City in September, 1847.He accompanied
Erastus Snow on the first Latter-day Saint mission to Denmark. [Mulder, William. "Homeward to Zion" (Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press, 1957)] He served on this mission from 1849-1855 during which he served as the first editor of theSkandinaviens Stjerne . Hansen latter served mission in to Denmark in 1873-1875 and 1880-1882. [Jenson. "LDS Biographical Encyclopedia", p. 766]Hansen died at
