Kate Hardie (born 1969) is a British actress, who found success appearing in a number of film and television roles.
Her
surname is derived from those of both her parents: Jean Hart and Bill Oddie. She was previously married to the photographer Rankin, with whom she had a son.Not formally trained, she auditioned for her first role, in the film 1982 "Runners" (written by
Stephen Poliakoff and directed byCharles Sturridge ), at the age of 14, only telling her parents she had done so when she got the part. She went on to appear in numerous films, includingNeil Jordan 's "Mona Lisa", "Cry Freedom","The Krays", and "Croupier".On television, her most notable role is playing student nurse Karen O'Malley in the
BBC drama series "Casualty".In 2006 she graduated in
screenwriting at theNational Film and Television School .
