The school was opened in 1964 as Pikesville Senior High School with grades 10-12 and was renamed in the mid-1980s as part of a county-wide grade realignment.About the School
The school is located in the community of Pikesville, just inside Baltimore County to the northwest of
Baltimore City . It is located on the corner of Smith Avenue and Labyrinth Road. The school's district bordersTowson High School ,Dulaney High School ,Owings Mills High School , New Town High School,Randallstown High School ,Milford Mill High School , andWoodlawn High School .Pikesville High School was organized in September, 1964 by the Board of Education of Baltimore County to meet the needs of the suburban community that it now serves. The school opened with a student population of 670 tenth and eleventh graders. It now has approximately 925 students in grades nine through twelve.The school and campus land was owned for many years by Dr. William Wyse. Born in Pikesville in 1866, Dr. Wyse practiced medicine in the area for fifty-seven years. The extensive planting of oak trees bordering the walkway in front of the school was once a carriage drive leading to Dr. Wyse’s large, rambling, brick home.

The graduation rate at Pikesville is fairly high, having been steady at 89%-95% between 1996 and 2007.
