Spanish Town Jamaica it had its origin as the Free School of St. Jago de la Vega. It is located at 33 Monk Street on grounds that are formally known as Ravensworth. Founded in1744 under the will of ColonelPeter Beckford , Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica. Throughout the years, the school has continued to distinguish itself; leaving its stamp on the academic records of the nation and producing a number of notable scholars.Fact|date=September 2007The history of St. Jago High School is a fascinating one, spanning 264 years dating back to 1744. The School has an intriguing history and is the result of the amalgamation of no less than three different educational institutions.In previous years the school was noted for producing a number of Jamaica's most senior army officers, Jamaican cricketers acdemic scholars and world class athletes.
Today St. Jago excels in most sports, most dominantly Track and field, but is also a fighting force in the performing arts, having performed well every year in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission Performing Arts Festivals in Drama, Dance, Music and Speech.
St. Jago recently won 2008 School's Challenge Quiz Competition making it the third time they have won this competition.

*6. Smith (Blue)Beckford House is known for its continuous success in the competition and Smith House is famous for its continuous defeat placing 6th for over 5 consecutive years. Nutall surprised all by stepping out of the top three positions and down to 5th making the most dramatic fall for a house in a long time, it placed 2nd in 2007 and 5th in 2008. Campbell, Bell and Wortley are the risers, Up from 4th to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd and 5th to 4th respectively.
