"Cabestana otagoensis" is a large deepwater sea snail, sometimes known as a predatory whelk, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Ranellidae, the tritons.

Range of distribution

This species is endemic to the southern South Island of New Zealand.

Habitat

It is found at depths of about 130 metres.

hell description

The shell is tall-spired and slender, with relatively weak spiral cords, and the strong flanged varices rise high above the sutures.

The shell height is up to 94 mm, and width up to 46 mm.
