Francisco ("Paco") Manuel Hervás Tirado (born
March 7 ,1962 inUtrera ) is a formervolleyball player fromSpain , who competed for his native country at the1992 Summer Olympics . He obtained a total number of 315 caps for the men's national team.Hervás was first appointed as Spain's head coach in 1997. Under his command, the Spanish side cruised to the
Volleyball World League finals in 2002, where they even managing to humble the Russians, who narrowly escaped elimination in the preliminary round but then went on the win the title. Several months later, Hervas' team finished 13th at the 2002 World Championship in Argentina.A former player, Hervas captained his country to the eighth place at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. During his career, he played for several Spanish clubs, including
Salesianos Atocha (Madrid),Atlético Madrid ,C.V. Benalmadena (Malaga), andC.V. Cisneors (Tenerife).Starting from 1992 he was made responsible for technical matters at the Spanish Volleyball Federation. A year later he became the director of the national coaches department. From 1995 to 1996 he served as assistant coach of the national men's team, before assuming the top position in the following year.
