I Legnanesi

The most famous drag theatrical company in Italy. Ironically, they were born a Catholic oratory acting company, where no female actress were allowed, so male actors had to perform female roles. They speak in strict Legnanese dialect. Their plays are filled with sexual innuendos. (E.g. "El m'ha ciapàa!" "Uh, contra la toa volontà?" "No no, contra'l buffée!" ("He got me" "Ooh, against your will?" "No no, against the table!")). The most preeminent characters are Teresa, a crone that was played by late Felice Musazzi, the founder of the Company and the author of the texts (now played by Antonio Provasio), and Mabilia, her daughter (played by late Tony Barlocco, now by Enrico Dalceri); with them is Giovanni, a simple, good-natured but perpetually half-drunk husband-father. Their most acclaimed comedy is "Il cortile dei miracoli" ("The courtyard of miracles", 1979).
