Leonard Jackson

Leonard Jackson

Leonard Jackson (April 8, 1848 — March 21, 1887) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm roundarm fast bowler who played for Derbyshire.

Jackson's career started in 1875, when he appeared in a North of England/South of England fixture, as a last-minute replacement for opponent McIntyre, though his County representative debut came two years later when he played for Derbyshire against Marylebone Cricket Club. The following year, he made two County appearances for Derbyshire, though he struggled at times with the bat and did not play any further matches until a recall four years later.

Jackson was out of the team a year after his return, not being able to capitalize on a lack of batting strength for the Derbyshire team. Jackson also worked as a landlord with his wife and four children, and at the end of his cricketing career, focused on this and metal-grinding as his main occupations for the five years until his death. Jackson was born in Norton Woodseats, on the border of Yorkshire and Derbyshire, and died in Sheffield.
