bonuses = The Prix du Petit Couvert is a Group 3 flat horse race in France open to thoroughbreds which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 1,000 metres (approximately 5 furlongs) at Longchamp Racecourse, and it takes place annually, presently in September.

First run in 1867, the race originally took place at Chantilly. Its title refers to the "Petit Couvert", a crossroads in the forest adjacent to the racecourse. During the Franco-Prussian War (and for two years thereafter) the event was abandoned, with no running from 1870 to 1873. Having been initially contested over 800 metres, the race's distance was extended to 1,000 metres in 1881. Apart from two years when it was run at Longchamp (1880 and 1900), the race remained at Chantilly until 1906.

Longchamp became the regular venue in 1907. Also at this time the distance was increased to 1,100 metres. For the duration of World War I, from 1914 to 1918, the event was not run. In 1921, shortly after it returned, the race's length was cut to 1,000 metres. This distance has since remained unchanged. During World War II the Prix du Petit Couvert was cancelled twice, in 1939 and 1940. Thereafter, when it could not be run at Longchamp, it was temporarily switched to Maisons-Laffitte (1943) and Tremblay (1944).

Prior to 2002 the event took place in late October, and it was also open to two-year-olds. Horses of this age achieved a total of 58 victories, the last of which came in 1999. Now run in September, the race acts as a trial for the Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp. This takes place at the same venue in early October.

The fastest winning time in the Prix du Petit Couvert over its present distance is 0m 55.5s, recorded by Nipping in 2005.
