March 15 1871 inPrague -May 12 1948 ) was a Czech writer and journalist.Skružný was taught stone-cutter but became a journalist for
Humoristické listy , a political satire magazine, where he contributed with short stories and cartoon. During the 1910s was friend with other satirists, namelyJosef Lada andJaroslav Hašek . In theFirst Republic of Czechoslovakia Skružný was a popular author of dramatic and satiric novels, many of which were filmed. He named his villa inZbraslav (Prague) "Venoušek a Stázička", after one of his most successful works.Elmar Klos , nephew of Skružný, cooperated on several movie scripts. Josef Skružný was a fierce anticommunist and supported and cooperated with Germans during theNazi occupation of Czechoslovakia . One of his sons,Roman Skružný (1932-2004), became a known neo-nazi activist.External links
