Long-distance anchor pylon

Long-distance anchor pylon

A long distance anchor pylon is an anchor pylon at the end of a line section with a span width longer than the others used in the line. At long distance anchor pylons there are larger distances between the conductor cables as at other sections in the line in order to prevent short-circuits which may occur when conductors came in consequence of wind induced oscillations too close to each other. Long distance anchor pylons must be built more stable than most other pylons in a powerline as they have to stand as consequence of the long cable span they carry much higher mechanical forces than other pylons of the line.Sometimes long-distance anchor pylons are built as portal pylons. At very long spans especially those which do not require tall pylons often each pylon carries only one conductor. By this measure very large distances between the conductors can be achieved.
