Unidym

Unidym Inc. is an industry leader in the development, manufacture, and application of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). CNT's are a novel material with extraordinary electrical, mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties. Unidym provides CNT-enabled products, specialized CNT materials, and intellectual property to a wide range of customers and business partners.

Building directly on the work of the late Dr. Richard Smalley, the Nobel Prize winning pioneer of carbon nanotubes [Nobel Lecture 12/7/1996, http://www.unidym.com/files/smalley_lecture.pdf] , and UCLA Distinguished Professor and World Economic Forum (WEF) Technology Pioneer [http://www.unidym.com/press/pr_071129.html] George Grüner, Unidym has created one of the most experienced teams in CNT science and the most expansive intellectual property portfolio in the CNT industry. Unidym’s current patent portfolio contains more than 200 foreign and domestic patents and patent applications, including more than 90 issued patents. The portfolio includes fundamental patents covering carbon nanotube compositions, production (synthesis, purification and dispersion) and use in many different application areas, including electronics, composite materials, energy storage/generation, medical devices and drug delivery [Unidym Patents, http://www.unidym.com/licensing/index.html] . Unidym is pursuing a cross-industry partnership strategy to foster the commercialization of CNTs in a broad range of applications. With its licensing program, technical expertise and manufacturing facilities, Unidym is uniquely equipped to enable partners to rapidly develop CNT solutions for their specific applications.

Unidym is also focusing on the electronics industry in various "vertical application areas" of CNT-based products. Its initial product is a transparent electrode for touch screens, flat panel displays, solar cells, and solid state lighting. Unidym’s CNT-based transparent conductive electrode delivers both process simplification and mechanical robustness for touch screens and display applications. When CNT-based films are compared to current ITO/IZO transparent electrode materials, Unidym’s products offer valuable features such as uniform transmission across the entire visible light spectrum, mechanical flexibility, reduced reflectivity and are more cost effective to manufacture. In addition to this vertical product for the display industry, Unidym has developed a range of proprietary CNTs for conductive polymers, structural reinforcement materials, and anti-static films.

Unidym merged with Carbon Nanotechnologies (CNI) in 2007 [CNI Merger Press Release, http://www.unidym.com/press/pr_070423.html] .

Unidym is headquartered in Menlo Park, California with CNT manufacturing operations in Houston, Texas [http://www.unidym.com/company/contact.html] .

Unidym, a majority-owned subsidiary of Arrowhead Research Corporation (NASDAQ: ARWR) [http://www.arrowres.com/subsidiaries.html] .
