- American System-Built Houses
The American System-Built Houses were based on architect Frank Lloyd Wright's interest in affordable housing. Wright developed a series of prefabricated housing designs marketed under the name of "American System-Built Houses." The building at 10410 South Hoyne Street in Chicago was erected by Burhans-Ellinwood & Co. in 1917 as the model for a subdivision of these residences. The only other Wright-designed house to be built is at 10541 South Hoyne Street, and was built for H. Howard Hyde, a cashier at International Harvester. The project was abandoned at the beginning of World War I. The buildings were designated Chicago Landmarks on July 13 1994.
