The Hardmen RFC is based in Dunedin, New Zealand. Hardmen RFC is affiliated to the NZRFU indirectly via the Otago Rugby Football Union and the University of Otago.

History

The Hardmen RFC was founded in March 1997. The purpose of founding the club was to allow students with little or no previous experience an opportunity to play rugby union in a safe, supervised and enjoyable social environment. To this end it was agreed that the Hardmen would play in the University social competition as run by UniPol.

The Hardmen RFC started with four students from the university's School of Physical Education in March 1997 and rapidly grew to a roster of 50 players by August 1997 and to 300 members (both playing and non-playing) by 2007.

Season 2008 kicks off on 29 March. If you are interested in playing, or just joining in the way of life, contact the Hardmen Country Club located on Harbour Tce.

Location

The Hardmen RFC play their home games Logan Park, Dunedin. Logan Park is a vast sporting complex that incorporates a lawn bowls complex, two hockey turfs, tennis, cricket, athletics, football and rugby union facilities.

Club colours

The Hardmen RFC, play in a red, blue and white top, navy blue shorts and New Zealand Barbarians socks.

The name

The Hardmen name and motto were given by a foundation member to embody the social spirit and self-deprecating nature of the team.

Anniversary

10th Anniversary celebrations were held 12-15 July 2007.

A series of commemorative events to celebrate the occasion were organised in association with the major team sponsors The Captain Cook Tavern and Tui

July 14 saw a close encounter between players from 1997-2001 and 2002-2007. The latter team edged out victorious in the end 25-10, however the game was a great occasion for all involved.
