Tammy Jackson (born
December 3 ,1962 ) is a retired Americanbasketball center.Jackson grew up in
Gainesville, FL , and played high school basketball atBuchholz High School . Her college career was spent at the nearbyUniversity of Florida , where she became the school's all-time points leader and was a second-team All-American her senior year.After college, due to the lack of women's pro leagues in America, she played in various international leagues. She won a bronze medal in the 1992 Summer Olympics as part of the
United States women's national basketball team .When the
WNBA began play in 1997, Jackson became one of the original players in the league. She spent all but two games of her career with theHouston Comets , and was with the team when they won the first four WNBA titles from 1997-2000. She retired at age 39 in 2002.Florida honored her as an SEC Great with the school's pick in 2003.
