The capital town Wolfenbüttel lies about 15 km (air line) northwesterly from Hedeper. Hedeper is see southernly municipality in the velvet municipality aces. It exists of both districts of Wetzleben (146 inhabitants) and Hedeper (401 inhabitants).
history
Both municipalities of Wetzleben and Hedeper have united in 1974. Both villages became mentioned already very much earlier for the first time in a document. Hedeper in 1188 and Wetzleben already 994.
culture and sights
As a landmark of Hedeper an old Windmill ist situated to the west of the village ("Erdholländer-Windmühle"). It was built in 1900 and was in use till 1956. From this spot one could once see 20 windmills, none of which remain today. Instead, the new windwheels of the local windmill powered plant surround Hedeper. Visitors are welcome.
Hedeper has come to life after the depression in the eighties due to the closing down of several farms. Now it boasts a small, but quite active sportsclub, a lively shooting club, a vital Protestant congregation and a committed auxiliary fire brigade. Three local farmers had joined to build a biogas plant serving the local community.
The village church was renovated in 2002 extravagantly and now represents the original state again.
Located in the southeast lies the "block mountain" (Klotzeberg), the indeed smallest, nevertheless first nature reserve of the administrative district.
economy and infrastructure
The inhabitants Hedepers lived generally on the scenery and forestry. Even if the place is still today agriculturally embossed, nevertheless, the jobs of the inhabitants generally lie in Wolfenbüttel, Brunswick, Salzgitter or Wolfsburg.
