Paremoremo

Paremoremo is a largely rural locality west of Albany on the northern fringe of Auckland, New Zealand.

Paremoremo was a small community on the Upper Waitemata Harbour which saw European settlement grow following the construction of a wharf at the foot of Attwood Road. Early last century it was known for its farms, market gardens and orchards. Passengers and cargo travelled to the city by the launches and small ferries of the period.More recently, its main claim to fame (or notoriety) was as home of Paremoremo Prison, New Zealand's main maximum security prison built in the mid-60's. However, since that institution's renaming as "Auckland Prison" in the 1990's, it is more commonly recognised as a desirable place to live within easy commuting distance of Auckland City, and just 8 minutes from the growing centre of Albany.
