Shenkottah

Shenkottah

Shenkottah is a small town bordering Kerala located in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu, India. It was earlier a part of Travancore Samasthanam before joining with Tamil Nadu after Independence. Shenkottah is situated about 5 km from the famous tourist spot Thirukurtallam, aka Kurtalam falls.

The town mostly depends on the agricultural business, but it has a large locomotive shed for metre gauge trains. This is the busiest junction before the neighbouring Tenkasi Broad Gauge Junction.

Shenkottah is the hometown of the famous singer K. B. Sundarambal. Also, there is a statue at a main road junction in memory of Vanchinathan, who shot Lord Ashe in Maniyachi.
