Pyrosvesteiou Square

Pyrosvesteiou or Pirosvesteiou Square (Greek: πλατεία Πυροσβεστείου "Plateia Pyrosvesteiou") is one of Patras's most popular squares. It is located 1.5 km north from downtown Patras, 133 km (old: about 134 km) west of Corinth, 216 km (old: 237 km) west of Athens, 97 km (old: 101 km) northeast of Pyrgos, 145 km northwest of Tripoli and 78 km northwest of Kalavryta. The square are bounded with two major streets, 28 Oktovriou (Karolou) and Korinthou streets.

The square features a walkway made up of tiles, grasslands and trees by its edges. Several shops surround the square, the rest of the buildings are residential especially in the northern and western sections.

The square features modernistic buildings around and it had red shingles with arches.

Information

The square was finished in the mid to late-19th century when the population boomed. Trees were added along with neo-classical buildings. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, almost every neo-classical buildings does not exist, they were replaced by eight storey residential buildings in which it were completed in the 1960s.

Panorama

It offers panorama includes the Arakynthos mountains and the mountains of the Etoloakarnania, the Fokida prefecture as well as the Panachaiko mountains. The Omplos mountain are blocked by its nearby hills and those panoramic features has been blocked since the reconstruction.
