Note
Before the introduction of
Teletype machines and computers on U.S. Navy ships, typewriters , used on smaller ships to copy wireless traffic during World War II and for some time afterwards, contained only uppercase letters. Thus, their message traffic records were always in capital letters. Larger ships with Teletype capability and large administrative onboard offices could use both upper and lowercase, as directed by their higher ranking officers or in compliance with contemporary Navy directives.Example of Use
