Person County, North Carolina , Darby attended the public schools.He moved with his father to Missouri in 1818, where he worked on a farm.He moved toFrankfort, Kentucky , in 1825.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar and afterward practiced in St. Louis, Missouri.He served twice as mayor of St. Louis from 1835-1837 and 1840-1841.He served as member of theMissouri Senate in 1838.Darby was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress (
March 4 ,1851 -March 3 ,1853 ).He returned to St. Louis and engaged in banking.He died nearPendleton, Missouri ,May 11 ,1882 .He was interred in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.References
