successor2 =|Ruth Coppinger is an Irish Socialist Party county councillor in Fingal County Council.
She is originally from south Dublin and was politically active in Labour prior to the expulsion of the Militant Tendency from the party. She later attended at
University College Dublin .She was co-opted to take the council seat of Socialist Party TD
Joe Higgins in July 2003. Coppinger was prominent in theAnti-Bin Tax Campaign which received national media attention following the jailing ofJoe Higgins and their colleagueClare Daly for their protests against non-collection of refuse.In the following year's local elections Coppinger received the second highest number of votes in Mulhuddart with 1,848 votes (14.72%).
