Kumarsen Samarth

Kumarsen Samarth

Kumarsen Samarth(Marathi: कुमारसेन समर्थ) belonged to a Marathi modernist family. His inclination towards Marathi language made him to direct some great Marathi/Hindi movies such as Nal Damyanti, Rupaye ki kahani (1948), etc. His biggest success was a Marathi film titled "Saibaba". He studied cinematography in Germany and came back to India. A distant relative,Rattan Bai, arranged a match for him with her beautiful daughter Shobhna Samarth, an aspiring actress. Shobhna initially didn't want to meet him, but once she saw him, she was struck by his good looks and decided to marry him on the condition that he let her act in films. He agreed and they married. They had four children, including famous actresses Nutan and Tanuja. He and his wife even made some films together. After fourteen years of marriage, they separated amicably but never divorced. He died in his mid-70's, leaving Shobhna a widow. [ [http://www.rediff.com/movies/1999/oct/29sama.htm Rediff On The NeT, Movies: Down memory lane with Shobhana Samarth ] ]
