Infraero is a Brazilian government corporation created in 1970 and responsible for administering the main Brazilian commercial airports. In 2003, Infraero's airports carried approximately 250 million passengers. Infraero is a very profitable company. It manages 67 airports, which represent 97% of the regular air carriage activity in Brazil, 81 Air Navigation Stations and 32 Cargo Logistics Terminals. Present all over Brazil the company employs approximately 23 thousand effective and subcontracted workers, nationwide.

Approximately 400 million people pass through these airports annually, 96 million of whom are passengers. Infraero airports operate approximately 1.8 million landings and take-offs and carry 1.3 million tons of cargo a year.

The company implements a works plan which covers practically all airports managed by it and which generates over 50 thousand jobs all over Brazil. The Brazilian airport infrastructure, which may match to the international standards, is being updated to meet the next years demand.

The works are performed with the company's own revenue, mainly generated by the air cargo storage and custom duty, granting of commercial areas in the airports, boarding, landing and stay tariffs, and rendering of communication and air navigation auxiliary services.

List of major Brazilian airports not controlled by Infraero

Some major Brazilian airports are not controlled by Infraero, generally military airports. Some commercial airports of relative importance are also not controlled by Infraero.

Commercial airports

Commercial airports not controlled by Infraero are a government (public) responsibility. Generally, the municipality of the city where the airport serves or is located is responsible for the funding and maintenance of these airports (or, in rare cases, a private company is given responsibility by the municipality to be responsible for the airport; in this case, any profit stays with the private company). Also, Infraero does not exert any power in private-owned air fields.

*Cascavel - Cascavel Regional Airport
*Chapecó - Chapecó Airport
*Maringá - Maringá Domestic Airport
*Porto Seguro
*Santa Maria - Santa Maria Regional Airport
*Santarém - Santarém Domestic Airport

Military airports

Infraero does not have any sort of control or responsibility over Brazilian military airbases; they are entirely controlled by the Brazilian Ministry of Aeronautic and Air Force.
