Irene Ighodaro

Irene Ighodaro

Irene Ighodaro (1916-1995) was a Nigerian doctor and was a president of the Young Women Christian Association of Nigeria. She was also the first President of the Medical Association of Nigerian Women, which is now headed by Dr Oyin Olurin. She was most notable for being the first female West African doctor.

Life

Irene was born in Sierra Leone and attended Annie Walsh memorial School. She later married Mr. Samuel Ighodaro of Benin.
