Shalom Arush

Shalom Arush is an Israeli Breslover rabbi spreading the teachings of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov among Sephardic Jews.

Biography

Arush was born in Morocco and immigrated to Israel with his parents as a child. After graduating from a secular high school, he served in the Israel Defense Force as an airborne combat medic, where he took part in many clandestine missions. He later attended university, majoring in economics.

During that time, five of his closest friends were killed in a helicopter crash while carrying out an army mission. This event was the catalyst for his personal teshuva. He studied in several yeshivot until he discovered Breslov Hasidut and studied under Rabbi Eliezer Berland, who made him his personal assistant.

Arush settled in Jerusalem in 1985 to establish the Chut Shel Chessed Institutions. In a short time, he became the leader of the Sephardic followers of Breslov Hasidut, who mainly originated in the baal teshuva movement.

Shuli Rand, star of the Academy Award–winning movie, "Ushpizin", is among Arush’s students and followers.
