Diplomatic Security Service for a few years and then left theForeign Service to become aCivil Service analyst in DSS' Intelligence and Threat Analysis branch for the remainder of his career in the State Department.Burton was also appointed by Washington to assist in the investigation of the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister
Yitzhak Rabin . He is the former deputy chief of the counterterrorism division of the U.S. State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service. Mr. Burton also investigated the killing of RabbiMeir Kahane ; the al Qaeda New York City bombing plots before 9/11; and the Libyan-backed terrorist attacks against diplomats inSanaa andKhartoum . He was involved in the arrest ofRamzi Yousef , the mastermind of the firstWorld Trade Center bombing in 1993.Burton is the author of a memoir, , published by
