Medina High School is a state-maintained high school on the Isle of Wight, situated on the outskirts of the island's capital, Newport, next to the River Medina. It is a specialist Arts College, and has recently received the Artsmark gold award in 2007.cite web | year = 2008 | url = http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/artsmark/index.php?location_id=94&rows=200&offset=3200 | title = Artsmark - Awarded Schools, awards database | publisher = www.artscouncil.org.uk | accessdate = 2008-06-20] It also publishes the Fusion magazine, written entirely by students at the school. Situated next to Medina High School is the Medina Leisure Centre and the Medina Theatre, which has 425 seats.cite web | year = 2008 | url = http://www.medinatheatre.co.uk/about.shtml | title = Medina Theatre - About | publisher = www.medinatheatre.co.uk | accessdate = 2008-06-20] The leisure centre includes a gym, climbing wall, multiple swimming pools, sports hall equipped for most sports. There is also an arboretum on site consisting of many varieties of trees and species of wild animals. Next to the arboretum is Seaclose Park, home to the revived Isle Of Wight Festival, which partially uses the school fields which incorporate the Strawberry Fields site and 'The Big Top' arena. Until his death on 18 March 2008, Anthony Minghella served as the school's patron.

It is one of five state-maintained high schools on the Isle of Wight, the others being Carisbrooke High School, Cowes High School, Ryde High School and Sandown High School. The school's sixth form is currently involved in a confederated sixth form collaboration scheme with both Carisbrooke and Cowes High School's, enabling sixth formers to travel to any of the other schools to study lessons there, widening the choice of subjects available to students. This is known as the CMC Collaboration.

Future plans to reform the current three tier school system by the Isle of Wight Council could have seen the closure of the school, with its possible re-opening, losing the sixth form but taking students from years 7-11.cite web | year = 2008 | url = http://www.iwcp.co.uk/News/GOVERNMENT_PRESSURE_FORCED_SCHOOLS_SHAKE-UP_1.aspx | title = Isle of Wight County Press - Government Pressure Forced Schools Shake-up | publisher = www.iwcp.co.uk | accessdate = 2008-01-18] cite web | year = 2008 | url = http://www.iwcp.co.uk/News/PRIMARY_SCHOOLS_FACE_DECIMATION.aspx | title = Isle of Wight County Press - Primary Schools Face Decimation | publisher = www.iwcp.co.uk | accessdate = 2008-01-18] When a decision was finally made, it was decided that the school would remain open, becoming Medina Secondary School on the current Medina and Downside Middle School sites.cite web | year = 2008 | url = http://www.iwcp.co.uk/Other/HOW_REFORMS_WILL_AFFECT_ISLAND_SCHOOLS.aspx | title = Isle of Wight County Press - How Reforms Will Affect Island Schools | publisher = www.iwcp.co.uk | accessdate = 2008-06-19]

Fusion

Fusion is a magazine produced by students at the school targetting young people across the island. It is released quarterly and distributed island wide. The first issue came out in Summer 2007, during the school's 'Arts Blast' week and contained a special documentary of the Isle of Wight Festival. Currently four issues have been successfully published, with a fourth planned for the summer. The first and second issues were supported by Creative Partnerships, however as of the third issue they were no longer involved. Because the magazine is free it relies on advertising revenue from island businesses. Since it started, the magazine has gained national interest with other schools also looking at similar projects.cite web | year = 2008 | url = http://www.iwcp.co.uk/News/MAGAZINE_HOPES_FOR_FUSION_WITH_BUSINESS.aspx | title = Isle of Wight County Press - Magazine Hopes For Fusion With Business | publisher = www.iwcp.co.uk | accessdate = 2008-06-20]
