The 17th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

The 17th Michigan Infantry was organized at Detroit, Michigan between August 8 and August 22, 1862.

The regiment was mustered out of service on June 3, 1865. Infantryman Frederick Alber of the 17th was awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery in combat action.

Total strength and casualties

The regiment suffered 7 officers and 128 enlistedmen who were killed in action or mortally wounded and 154 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 289 fatalities.
