Artists space

Artists Space is a non-profit art gallery dedicated to showcasing emerging artists located in the SoHo district of New York City. It was founded in 1972 by Trudy Grace, an officer at the New York State Council for the Arts) and Irving Sandler, an art historian and critic in response to the difficulty artists faced at the time receiving direct support from any government funding agencies. The artists that Artists Space showcases are not represented by other galleries, and the work is not for sale directly by the gallery.Cite web|url=http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9803E6DC1139F937A2575AC0A961958260|title=A Kinder, Gentler Gallery|accessdate=2008-03-24|year=1997-09-14|author=Jim Perry|work=The New York Times] Artist Space's "Night of 1,000 Drawings", their primary fundraiser, is well known in the industry as an evening where art is sold simply based on size, at prices seemingly well below the market rate for art in the neighborhood.Cite web|url=http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C02E0DB1E3CF93BA35751C1A9669C8B63|title=An Art Pricing Scheme Anyone Can Understand|accessdate=2008-03-24|year=2000-12-08|author=Shaila K.
