The Powder Kegs is a band from New York that combines folk, hip hop, R&B, jazz, and rock.

History

The Powder Kegs were originally an old-time band consisting of Ryan Dieringer (Bass), Daniel Maroti (Guitars/Vocals), Sam McDougle (Fiddle), along with Jake Hoffman (Banjo/Vocals), and Pete Winne (Slide Guitar/Harmonica/Vocals) .

In 2008, The Powder Kegs became a trio after Hoffman and Winne left the group. The current Powder Kegs integrate elements of rock and ambient experimental music while still incorporating the sense of folk music. They have a 2008 tour planned, to promote their new CD, "you and your right now."

Awards

The band was awarded first place at A Prairie Home Companion's People in Their Twenties Talent Contest, which was featured at the show on April 21, 2007. [cite web |url=http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/features/talent/ |title=Meet the finalists |accessdate=2008-08-19]
