South By South East

"South by South East" is a book written by Anthony Horowitz It is the third book in the 'Diamond Brothers series and features the main characters, Tim and Nick Diamond.

McGuffin had finished talking. The telephone was dead and any minute now he would be joining it. The stuff he had spilled down his coat was blood - his own blood.

The Diamond brothers are broke. When a mysterious stranger offers Tim a wad of money in exchange for his overcoat, it seems like a stroke of good luck. But worse things can happen to you then be broke - being pumped full of lead for one. And if the Diamond brothers aren't careful, the next victims could be them unless they can catch the unknown assassin red-handed.

Plot

The Diamond brothers are broke. They just moved into a cheap apartment when suddenly a mysterious man named Jake McGuffin, bursts into their office, offers Tim a wad of cash for his coat but leaves his own in Tim’s office, and disappears as quickly as he came. When Nick bends down to pick up the coat, something falls out of one of the pockets, a key. There is a plastic tag attached to it and in bright red letters: Room 605, London International Hotel.

When Tim and Nick go outside, they find him lying on a sidewalk, dying from a gunshot wound. His last words, drowned out by a train, sounded like "suff bee suff iss" or was it "south by southeast"? Out of which both don’t make any sense what so ever.

Suddenly, the Diamond Brothers are thrown into an extremely hazardous and risky adventure involving MI6 and their chase for Charon. Charon is just a code name but that is what he was called. He was a killer, an assassin, and the head of a gigantic murder organization. Nobody knew who Charon was as he could disguise himself extremely rapidly and cover-up his face. There was only one way of recognizing Charon, he had lost a finger, therefore he only had nine fingers (instead of ten) He had done this so many times that hardly anyone knew what he actually looked like. It was Charon’s men who were responsible for the murder of Jake McGuffin (the man who had bought Tim’s coat). Mr. McGuffin had been murdered as he was aware of Charon’s plan to murder a Russian diplomat, Boris Kusenov.

What follows is, Tim clowning around and Nick trying to save him from deadly situations one after the other, including an airplane chase, a deadly magical show, and the horror that is in the tunnel of love.
