TOPLAP

TOPLAP (The (Temporary|Transnational|Terrestrial|Transdimensional) Organisation for the (Promotion|Proliferation|Permanence|Purity) of Live (Algorithm|Audio|Art|Artistic) Programming) is an organization which explores the practice of live coding in relation to the performing arts. It began in February 2003.

In a performance, an artist might wonder what would be the most appropriate way to present a person coding. Clearly, the operation of the computer is part of the performance, but the audience may not appreciate that. (Indeed, audiences for electronic music performances have often complained about this, stating in effect, "All the guy did was push buttons on his laptop, how boring!") TOPLAP exists to create standards for this kind of artistic presentation.
