Misc ="It's My House" is a
reggae -flavoredR&B song written and produced byAshford & Simpson and released as a single by singerDiana Ross on the Motown label in 1979.The song brought on a Caribbean-flavored
funk vibe that gave a new dimension to Ross' sensual vocals and style of music. Brought on by the catchy chorus, "It's my house and I live here", the song has its narrator telling her lover to "come to my house" because her house "was built for love".While not fully promoted on pop radio in fear it wouldn't cross over, the song became a modest R&B hit, peaking at number 27 on that chart becoming a favorite for Ross' black fan base.
The song would be revived eight years later by
Eddie Murphy on his comedy special, "" in1987 , who mentions the song to discuss how when his father "gets drunk and sings old Motown songs in his argument and messes the songs up". His father drunkenly mentions this song while trying to tell Eddie's mother to stay in the house: "it's my house, likeDiana Ross said, it's my house and I live here... and she sings in Spanish too... en mi casa, I don't vivo aqui..." The song would also be referenced by rapperSnoop Dogg in his intro to his 2002 album, "Pays the Cost to Be the Boss".Credits
