Pledge Party

A Pledge Party is a celebration which is starting to become a new tradition in England currently between gay couples prior to a Civil Partnership. The Pledge Party is an alternative to an engagement party.

The Pledge itself, or promise, is a declaration of love between the couple and the announcement, coupled with a party demonstrates their commitment to one another along with their intention to enter into a Civil Partnership. This may be symbolised by the exchanging of rings.

A celebration is likely to be held approximately one year to the day prior to the date of the Civil Partnership Ceremony if the date is known. It is an opportunity to gather family and friends together in celebration of the forthcoming event.

Should the date be known, couples may give out Save The Date cards for their guests to ensure the availabilty of their nearest and dearest. A "Pledge" cake is being added to the celebrations.

Gifts are also accepted but not expected at these events in a similar way to that of an Engagement.
