Edna Schmidt (born August 8, 1969 in Manhattan, New York) is an American journalist of Puerto Rican descent.

Early years

Schmidt's parents emigrated from Puerto Rico and settled in New York City, where she was born. After receiving her primary and secondary education, Schmidt enrolled in college where she majored in journalism. After this she moved to Puerto Rico where she started her career as a newscastor for WSJN-TV (Channel 24). In 1992 she went to Chicago where she was offered a job at WGBO-TV (Channel 66) a local Spanish language station. Telefutura

She lived in Chicago for 10 years before she was offered the position of anchor woman in Telefutura, a division of Univision Communications, Inc., the leading Spanish language media company in the U.S.. Among the important events which Schmidt has covered are the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attacks, the panic caused by the Anthrax threat and the execution of the Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh. Later years

As of September 2005, Schmidt together with Sergio Urquidi will co-anchor Univision's Noticiero.
