Perryville, Kentucky is nationally known because its signature facade is featured on thousands of tins of tea and recipe books that ship every year under the banner of Elmwood Inn Fine Teas company. Built in 1842, the Greek Revival mansion was used as a make-shift hospital during theBattle of Perryville in theAmerican Civil War . Over the years, the building has been used as a school and a fine American tea house. Guests of the Elmwood Inn have includedRonald Reagan ,Colonel Harland Sanders , andLynn Redgrave .Elmwood was rescued by preservationists in 1974, placed on the
National Register of Historic Places , and designated as aKentucky landmark by GovernorWendell Ford .References
