Phillip Colgan Ferguson (
August 15 ,1903 -August 8 ,1978 ) was a U.S. Representative fromOklahoma .Born in
Wellington, Kansas , Ferguson attended the public schools.He graduated from theUniversity of Kansas at Lawrence , A.B., in 1926.He moved to Oklahoma and settled on a ranch near Woodward, Woodward County, in 1926.He engaged in agricultural pursuits and cattle raising.Ferguson was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth and to the two succeeding Congresses (
January 3 ,1935 -January 3 ,1941 ).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1940 to the Seventy-seventh Congress and for election in 1944 to the Seventy-ninth Congress.He resumed his former pursuits. Commissioned a major in theUnited States Marine Corps in the Second World War and served fromMarch 2 ,1942 , toAugust 1 ,1944 .He received the Silver Star Medal.He was an unsuccessful Republican candidate for Governor of Oklahoma in 1958.He engaged in cattle ranching.He was director of the Bank of Woodward and cattleman. He resided inWoodward, Oklahoma , until his death inTijuana ,Mexico ,August 8 ,1978 . Cremated. Ashes scattered on the Pacific Ocean atSan Diego, California .ource
