James Lloyd Breck (
June 27 ,1818 –April 2 ,1876 ) was apriest ,educator andmissionary of theEpiscopal Church of the United States of America .Breck was born near
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania . He attended high school at the Flushing Institute, founded byWilliam Augustus Muhlenberg , who inspired him to resolve at the age of sixteen to devote himself to missionary activity. In 1844, by then apriest , he went to the frontier ofWisconsin with two classmates, under the direction of BishopJackson Kemper , to foundNashotah House , intended as amonastic community , aseminary , and a center for theological work. Minnesota where he founded schools for boys and girls, and the Seabury Divinity School atFaribault, Minnesota . He also began mission work among theOjibwa .
