HD 81040 is a star in the constellation of Leo. It is G-type yellow dwarf like our Sun. The Sun dwarfs HD 81040 in terms of physical characteristics. The age of the star is not precisely known, the ELODIE spectrograph suggested the age of 0.8 Gyr and found to have young dust disk. Later measurements by modelling chromosperic activity suggested the age of 4.18 Gyr.

On November 24, 2005, the date of Thanksgiving day, the superjovian planet was announced by Sozzetti.
