Mishy-phen

Mishy-phen

A mishy-phen is a misplacement of a hyphen with the effect of making a word or phrase incomprehensible or ludicrous.

Examples:

* In the word "co-worker", a line-end hyphen may be placed after the "w", so that "cow-orker" appears.
* Alleged to have appeared in the Sunday Telegraph: "announ-cement".
* "Riders-hip"
* "Its-elf"
* "Code-pendents"
* "Lighty-ears"
* "Misty-ped"
* "Ong-oing"
* "Men-swear"

The term "mishy-phen" is of course self-referential.
