"For the former Texan politician, please see John Allen Wilcox."

John Wilcox (born August 16, 1940) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler. He was born in Newton Abbot.

Wilcox's career began with Cambridge University in 1961, for whom he played for two years, his debut coming against Kent. He played eleven further first-class matches until the end of 1962, when he finished playing for the team.

Wilcox spent a year out of the game before making his debut County Championship appearance in 1964, six years after his debut in the Minor Counties Championship for the Second XI. Wilcox's first appearance, against Northamptonshire, finished in an innings defeat, Towards the end of the 1964 season, he played in a game against the touring Australians, in a five-month tour which included five Test matches. Essex finished the 1964 season in tenth place, an improvement on the previous year's performance.

However, Wilcox would make fewer appearances throughout the 1965 season, finding himself out of the team after a second-innings duck against Somerset, and he would not appear in the County Championship again for a further two years. Wilcox made four appearances towards the end of August 1967, but would not play first-class cricket again following this, as Essex finished in 15th position, achieving just one maximum-point win throughout the whole season.

Wilcox's father Denys played first-class cricket for Essex for nearly 20 years, captaining the team for six years before the Second World War.
