Heinrich Proch (
July 22 ,1809 ,Vienna –December 18 ,1878 , Vienna) was anAustria ncomposer .Proch studied
jurisprudence and completed his training as aviolinist in Vienna. From 1834 to 1867, he was a member of the Vienna Hofkapelle. He was alsoKapellmeister at theTheater in der Josefstadt between 1837 and 1840, after which he became First Kapellmeister at theTheater am Kärntnertor , the predecessor of theVienna State Opera . Besides hisconducting duties, Proch also worked as a singing teacher.He composed one
opera ("Ring und Makse"), threeoperetta s,incidental music ,orchestra l works, andchamber music , as well as over 200lied er, and won further distinction for histranslation s ofItalian opera s (e.g., Verdi's "Il trovatore ", Donizetti's "Don Pasquale ").His daughter,
Louise Proch , became a well-known singer and actor.Further reading
