- Metropolitan Walkers
-
The Metropolitan Walkers is a walking group in London mainly for people in their 20s and 30s. It is part of the Ramblers Association. Formed in 2001 it is now the largest Ramblers 20s and 30s group in the country with some 800 members. They organise four walks most weekends, ranging from 5 to 20 miles in length and shorter city strolls after work most Tuesdays. The walks are varied and include walks in and around London to areas such as the North Downs, South Coast, Chilterns and Thames Path. All walks are accessible by public transport, which usually means they start and finish at either a tube or train station.
The Metropolitan Walkers have an active social programme and organise weekends away. Recent trips have included the Peak District, the Lake District, Edinburgh, Northern Ireland and Jersey. Socials have included eating out, pub crawls and quizzes, classical concerts, ice skating, theatre shows and dancing. Most walks end with a pub stop – a great way to get to know fellow walkers.
The group is run by volunteers. All walks are led by members of the group and it is always looking for new walk leaders. Participation is encouraged.
