The paper has been the first to publish quite a few news stories the most well known being its report on the conquest of Mt Everest. All other newspapers from India and abroad carried it the following day.
Among the events it has chronicled, one of the most detailed would be the
Assam Movement . Bedabrata Lahkar, now a senior staffer reported extensively on the Movement.For good measure the paper is known for its reports on environment and conservation issues. Prabal Kr Das and Sivasish Thakur report on these issues and both have earned accolades for their news and analysis.
