Westlake Shopping Center is a single level, regional mall in Daly City, California, USA. It is anchored by Burlington Coat Factory, Home Depot, Linens 'n Things, Safeway, and Walgreens.

History

Early years

Westlake Shopping Center was originally known as Westlake Town and County Shopping Center. It had its groundbreaking in 1948, making it one of the earliest malls in America. It was also the first community shopping center in the Bay Area. Its open-air pedestrian promenades allowed the center to be used for outdoor concerts, art shows, fairs, dances, and other community events for many years. Renovation

Phase I

Westlake is currently undergoing a renovation. A Home Depot store was constructed on the site of the old J.C. Penney. In addition, a Cost Plus World Market opened in a brand new building in the center of the mall. Phase I involved relocation and enlargement of the existing Trader Joe’s. Phase I will involve demolition of 173,032 square feet of retail space, construction of approximately convert|194419|sqft|m2|0|abbr=on of new retail development, and the removal of 96 parking spaces, resulting in convert|21387|sqft|m2|0|abbr=on of net new development and a 5 percent reduction of parking stalls. Phase II

Phase II involves construction of convert|96005|sqft|m2|0|abbr=on of new retail uses, including construction of a convert|30000|sqft|m2|-3|abbr=on second floor addition to the existing one-story retail building. Phase II also involvesconstruction of a convert|160666|sqft|m2|0|sing=on parking garage, construction of necessary public improvements,relocation of existing utilities within the shopping center, and upgrading pedestrian walkways and vehicular facilities.
